China- Beijing and Xi'an

China
I never thought that I would go to China and then enjoy myself as much as I did. As a child, I grew up with National Geographic magazines and the one article I remember was the terracotta warriors. My dream was to see this magnificent site and see it in person. This dream came true a few weeks ago. I can’t express in words the puzzle that archaeologists have had to do to put all of the pieces together… and they aren’t finished yet. There are still mounds to be excavated! So far over 7000 soldiers have been excavated. Then, it was off to the great wall. Another incredible site where I just walked steps out of 5000 km. I wish I could have walked across all of it because I can’t believe how huge this wall is! I was lucky to make this trip with 3 great friends and because of our wonderful guide- we fell in love with China. When will I return to explore more of this country? I never know- but I am hoping to visit Tibet, Guilin and Shanghai one day.

Hi Kendra, You gals look happy! I visited China in 1985 and stayed in Xian - it was a dusty little town then, and the Warriors were just beginning to be excavated. I remember that I was awestruck.

Hi Kendra,
My first trip to China, including Xian, was ten years ago and I was awestruck, as will witness Mary and Bob. My second trip through the Yunnan, from the ricefields to the foothills of the Himalayas was even more eye-opening. Can't wait to go back and so much more to see - maybe we can hook up at some point? Bhutan is still 9 months away but hopefully there will be many more trips to come.
